A place to belong
Masterplan
A phased approach

Reimagining the Typhoo Tea Factory site
Stoford is working with award-winning architects, Howells, to devise a new vision for the tea factory. The first phase of development will comprise:
- The reinvigoration of the former Typhoo Tea Factory building to deliver a new 84,001 sq ft purpose-built headquarters for the BBC.
- Improved connectivity to the wider area, linking the site to public transport hubs and encouraging active travel.
- New landscaped areas and urban growing space within the wider site (meanwhile uses until detailed proposals for the wider site are developed).

Reinvigoration of the wider site
The subsequent phases will see the reinvigoration of more than 10 acres of underutilised land around the Typhoo Wharf site, including:
- Delivery of new public realm including social spaces around Typhoo Wharf and the adjoining canal basin.
- Delivery of up to 800,000 sq ft of new residential and commercial accommodation over the next five to ten years.
- Improved connectivity throughout the site, as well as linking the site to public transport hubs and encouraging active travel.

Work on site...

The Typhoo Tea Factory building has been partially demolished to provide 84,001 sq ft of commercial space and parking for the BBC Birmingham headquarters. The original Bordesley Street façade is being preserved, and all external façades will include materials that complement the existing factory’s palette and character of the surrounding area, respecting its development throughout the 20th century.
A creative community

Known as Birmingham’s creative quarter, Digbeth is an evolving area featuring street art, independent businesses and a growing community.
The home of creativity

Typhoo Wharf will bring together art, performance and events.
Stoford is partnering with a public arts charity to further shape this artistic community. Doing so will be key to supporting local creatives, curating events and exhibitions, providing facilities and developing new talent.
