The Tea Factory
Once home to Typhoo Tea; soon to be home to BBC Birmingham, plus residential, office and leisure space
Today and tomorrow

The development area is in the northern part of Digbeth. The site presents a fantastic opportunity for thoughtful reinvigoration, through a combination of heritage retention and modernisation.
The BBC Birmingham headquarters development comprises the Typhoo Tea Factory building fronting Bordesley Street as well as land to the rear of the Typhoo Tea Factory building between the canal basin and Benacre Drive.
From leaves to legacy

Typhoo Tea opened its packing works in Bordesley Street, Digbeth in 1926, after it outgrew its previous premises in the city, before relocating to Merseyside in 1978 as it continued to expand. Like much of Digbeth, the former factory and its surrounding area fell into decline in the late 20th Century, due to de-industrialisation and the cutting off from the city centre by urban highway projects.
However, a more recent reversal of that trend has seen the area begin to renew and flourish as a home for creative, cultural and technology enterprises alongside food, beverage and nightlife.
